After the Marvel Panel ended at D23 Expo, some fans wondered why no announcement was made in regards to Deadpool joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Today we know now the status of the 3rd film in the franchise. Ryan Reynolds put out a tweet a little while ago with the status of Deadpool coming to the MCU and to say I’m excited in an understatement:
Hard keeping my mouth sewn shut about this one. ⚔️ pic.twitter.com/OdV7JmAkEu

Less than 2 years from now, on September 6, 2024 Deadpool 3 will be released in theaters. The end of the video shows that Hugh Jackman will be returning to play the iconic role of Wolverine one last time.
Before now, the last news we had heard was Marvel Studios had hired sisters Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Loeglin to write Deadpool 3, with Shawn Levy (Free Guy) on board to direct.
The future of the franchise was unclear in the wake of Disney acquiring Fox, where the previous two movies had been made. Deadpool is now *officially* a Marvel Studios property.
Back in 2016, Deadpool scored big at the box office with a $782 million worldwide gross. The sequel in 2018 surpassed even that massive total, pulling in $785 million worldwide. Now that Deadpool is officially a part of the MCU, I’m sure the box office will surpass both previous films.
