The wildest ride in the wilderness is coming out of the theme parks and onto the big screen as it seems one of Disney’s next feature films is going to be based on the beloved classic Disney Parks theme park attraction: Big Thunder Mountain.
Per a new report by Deadline, it seems “Hawkeye” directors Bert & Bertie are in negotiations to direct the film and LuckyChap Entertainment and Scott Free are producing, with Kieran and Michele Mulroney writing the script.
For those not familiar with the attraction, it originally opened at Disneyland in Anaheim in 1979. The ride takes guests on a mine cart ride set in a mining town where gold is discovered. The attraction was so beloved by guests another version of the attraction was brought to Magic Kingdom in Orlando.
In fact, the attraction has been so successful and beloved by fans of the Disney Parks it is also available at Disney Parks around the world, including the Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Paris resort theme parks.
As one can probably imagine, no plot details are known at this time. We can only imagine the story revolves around a wild chase on a mountain for gold!
The last time Disney brought one of its theme park attractions to the silver screen we were gifted with the “Pirates of the Caribbean” film franchise, which grossed absorbent amounts of money for the company across the globe. In fact, the franchise was so successful it went on to become a 5-film franchise with actor Johnny Depp.
The franchise is still so popular today that it has even been adopted into another film that is believed to be coming out in the next few years. Little details are known about this upcoming film at this time.
