After decades, the Evil Queen is finally coming back to the big screen! Only this time it will be in a live-action version and Gal Gadot will portray the Wicked Queen in a revamped “Snow White.”
The news comes from Deadline, who reported Gadot is in final negotiations to play the Evil Queen in Disney’s upcoming live-action adaption of “Snow White.” Additionally, it’s being reported that Rachel Zegler, most known for playing the lead role as Maria Vasquez in the upcoming film adaptation of “West Side Story,” will portray the iconic Disney princess.
Production on the film is expected to begin in 2022. Marc Webb is set to direct the film and Marc Platt has signed on to produce the movie.
For those who are not aware, “Snow White,” which was first released in 1938, was the first feature film released by Disney. This inaugural film was then followed by a series of classic films we’ve all come to love.
Per Deadline’s report, it’s being said the this live-action film will expand on the story and music from the original. Ben Pasek and Justin Paul, the team behind the music for “The Greatest Showman” and “Dear Evan Hansen” will write new songs for the movie.
According to insiders, it’s been said casting for the film has been long and thorough. However, studio execs have always had their eye on Gadot for the role of the Disney villain.
Gadot is most known for her portrayal of Wonder Woman in the DC film universe, which she recently starred as this past year in “Wonder Woman: 1984.” The film was released both theatrically and on the Warner Bros. streaming service HBO Max.
