Don Cheadle says Marvel fans will be “very surprised” by the storytelling direction of his upcoming Disney+ series Armor Wars.
The 56-year-old star will reprise his role as James Rhodes — aka War Machine — in the series, which has tapped stand-up comedian Yassir Lester to act as head writer and exec producer.
Disney has said that the story focuses on Rhodes, who “must face what happens when Tony Stark’s tech falls into the wrong hands”.
“Armor Wars will be different and I think it’s going to be pretty unique,” Cheadle told Yahoo Entertainment UK in an interview to promote Steven Soderbergh thriller No Sudden Move.
He added: “We’re breaking the story now in the writers’ room and figuring out what direction it’s gonna take, but I think people are going to be very surprised at where we’re gonna go with this, for sure.”
Armor Wars will be Cheadle’s first chance to take the lead role in a Marvel property, having played Rhodes across seven movies and in both The Falcon and the Winter Soldier and What If…?
