Tommy Kirk, most known for his roles in Old Yeller and The Shaggy Dog has passed away at the age of 79.
According to a Facebook post by actor Paul Peterson, Kirk lived alone in Las Vegas and was found dead Tuesday. In a report from TMZ, Kirk is said to have died at home, and no foul play is suspected in his death.
For those who may not have followed this icon’s career, the actor got his first big role as sleuth Joe Hardy in a pair of Hardy Boys TV shows, “The Mystery of the Applegate Treasure,” and “The Mystery of the Ghost Farm.” The star also was a part of ABC’s The Mickey Mouse Club, which aired in 1956-1957.
In 1957, Kirk took on the role of country kid Travis Coates in Old Yeller. In 1959, the actor became a dog when he lent his voice to a sheepdog named Chiffon in The Shaggy Dog. In 1960, Kirk played the middle son Ernst, in Swiss Family Robinson.
