Right in time for Alice in Wonderland’s 70th Anniversary, the Alice in Wonderland by Mary Blair Collection brings to life the whimsical world of Wonderland, with an eclectic mix of home décor, tabletop, apparel and accessories. Available on shopDisney.com beginning Aug. 16 and coming soon to Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort, the collection features playful designs by artist Mary Blair, who was one of the first female artists for The Walt Disney Company and who was recognized for her conceptual designs of Walt Disney Animation Studios classics including “Alice in Wonderland.” From home wear staples featuring charming florals to collectible curiosities, the line has everything you might need for the ultimate tea party. The collection will even be available soon across the pond in Disney Stores in Europe and shopDisney.co.uk as well!
We had the chance to chat with some of the inspiring Disney cast members who brought this timeless collection to life, and here’s what they said:
Nontra Null, who designs global product for Pixar Animation Studios, Disney Parks, Disney Princess and Walt Disney Animation Studios, explained her personal affinity for Mary Blair, quoting, “Her signature style is so iconic and key to the Disney original stories. I think there’s something really beautiful and whimsical about her style and interpretation of characters in her artwork.”
What’s Nontra’s favorite piece in the entire collection, you might be wondering? The headband set! And can you blame her?! Check it out below:
Jessica Fuchs, who designs toys for Pixar Animation Studios, Disney Parks, Disney Princess and Walt Disney Animation Studios, explained that Mary Blair’s unique use of color and light is what makes her art especially powerful, saying, “I love how expressive her environments are!”
Marthe Hoffman, who designs home, tabletop and stationary products for Disney, was also inspired by the environment around her, citing her personal commitment to observing the world. Marthe drew parallels between her own inspiration and Mary Blair’s explaining, “Mary Blair was an incredible observationalist, so her work conveyed mood, it conveyed setting, but it also conveyed more about the character than I think we’re used to seeing in traditional art.” The teapot and teacup and saucer set are a wonderfully whimsy example of the way the collection embraces environmental elements… Peep those petals!
Samantha Lee, who handles sourcing for dolls and toys, took another approach, paying extra close attention to the smaller details that make all the difference. Samantha explained that she was careful in determining which doll fabric was selected when bringing Blair’s art style and vision to life through the limited-edition Mary Blair Alice doll that was released in late July and has sold out. The Alice doll’s pinafore dress is really one of a kind and serves as a culmination of the entire collection. Check out the doll below!
