It’s official, Disneyland is joining its east coast counterpart Walt Disney World in the regulation of face masks for guests by lifting its requirement of face masks for guests who are vaccinated.
The mandate has been dropped at the Disneyland Resort as of Tuesday, June 15. Now, guests are no longer required to wear face coverings at either of its two theme parks or Downtown Disney shopping district.
Additionally, the theme park resort will also begin accepting guests from out-of-state and discontinue its temperature checks. According to an official release by Disney on Monday, unvaccinated visitors older than age 2 are still required to wear masks. However, guests will not be required to show proof of vaccination; instead, they’ll self-attest that they are in vaccinated upon entering and say they are aware of California’s strong vaccination recommendations or receive a negative COVID-19 test before visiting.
Similar to Walt Disney World, Disneyland Resort will continue to require its guests to book a park reservation prior to visiting the theme parks.
“As we have realized the benefits of reservations in helping to manage Guest visitation and provide an even better experience, our reservation system will continue and we will gradually increase attendance as our operations allow,” the park’s statement reads.
As we’ve shared in the past, the Universal Orlando and Universal Hollywood theme park resorts have not been requiring its guests to wear face masks for the past few weeks. Similar to Walt Disney World and Disneyland, both Universal resorts are operating on an honor system–giving guests the responsibility to choose to wear a face mask if not yet vaccinated.
Similar to Florida, California is also in the process of trying to rebuild its economy following major closures brought on by the COVID-19 pandemic.
