Disneyland Gets Greenlight to Increase Capacity as Disney World Relaxes Mask Rules

Earlier this week Walt Disney World announced a major shift to allow guests to go without face masks in outdoor spaces at its theme parks, hotel courtyards, and in some extended attraction queues and now Disneyland is getting the greenlight to increase its capacity!

The news comes via a recent Disney earnings call where Bob Chapek, CEO of the Walt Disney Company, revealed the news of Disneyland’s capacity increase. During the call, the CEO stated, per new guidelines from the CDC: “So we think that’s going to make for an even more pleasant experience and we believe that as we’re now bringing back a lot of people back to work, that it’s going to be an even bigger catalyst for growth in attendance, and we’ve been quite pleased to date.”

Thanks to relaxed COVID restrictions by the CDC, the company is able to bring back more entertainment like parades and fireworks, which were both cut following the COVID-19 pandemic. Additionally, Chapek mentioned during the call that it is likely that guests would see an immediate increase in the number of people they are able to let into the parks. Additional, it’s likely that by Disney World’s 50th anniversary celebration, starting October 1, that guest capacity will be back to 2019 levels and on-site resorts that are still closed will be reopened to welcome back visitors.

The new mask rules at Walt Disney World came days before Disneyland reached the yellow tier of California’s reopening framework, which means that the California resort can now increase capacity from 25% to 35%. The yellow tier also allows restaurants to increase their capacity, meaning more reservations for Disneyland Resort restaurants are becoming available for guests to book.

Naturally, allowing more people back into the parks will allow for the hiring back of more employees who were laid off or furloughed during the pandemic. According to Forbes, per the Disney career website, the company was looking for people to join their fireworks team at the Walt Disney World theme parks–which means we could see the return of Happily Ever After sooner than later!
