Marvel has officially replaced Steve Rogers as Captain America–at least, they have on social media. The Walt Disney Company took to its social media channels for Captain America and replaced an image of Rogers with Sam Wilson (portrayed by Anthony Mackie on screen).
The new header image went live yesterday, only days after the season finale of “The Falcon and Winter Solider,” which concluded with Wilson becoming the rightful bearer of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s iconic stars-and-stripes shield. Below, you can see the official update on the social media page.
Following this change and news we shared earlier this year, it may be finally time to mark a new era for the superhero as the likelihood of Chris Evans returning to the patriotic character seems much less likely now. After-all, it seems Disney really made it Facebook official.
As we recently shared, this new image comes from a new poster put out by Disney+. The poster came following the premiere of the series’ final episode.
Not much is known of what is to come for Wilson following this series. Yes, he is now officially Captain America. However, where exactly we might see him in the next coming films in the MCU remains a mystery.
The next film to be released in the Marvel Cinematic Universe following “The Falcon and The Winter Solider” is “Black Widow.” At this time, Mackie is not included as one of the cast members for the film. It’s also not likely the action star will be featured again so soon.
Following the release of “Black Widow” will be “Shang-Chi and The Legend of The Ten Rings” in September and “The Eternals” in November.
