MagicMobile or MagicBand? The Preferred Method of Park Goers

MagicMobile or MagicBand?

Disney recently launched their MagicMobile Service, but what does this mean for the future of MagicBands? Because of this new offering, as of January 1, 2021, MagicBands are no longer complimentary for hotel guests. Annual Passholders still have the option to purchase one at a discounted rate when renewing their pass. New styles are continually being added to the selection, including solid colors, characters, and special designs. However, will these choices be enough to keep park goers interested in purchasing them? The MagicMobile Service offers the same features as a MagicBand, in addition to being free and convenient. The user does not even have to unlock their phone to activate it.

But will users consider the downside to this method? Technology is finicky and sometimes nonoperational. Phones may be low on battery or the My Disney Experience App could be down. It is always a good idea to have a back-up and, in this case, a MagicBand would be the perfect choice. It sits on your wrist for easy access, there is no need to charge it, and you do not need the app for it to work (although it does need to be linked to your account). This is a great option for kids, too. They can wear their own, which teaches them responsibility and makes them feel included. It also becomes a keepsake of their favorite character or movie that they can bring with them on every park visit.

It is too soon to tell how successful this new service will be and if it will make MagicBands a thing of the past. With new releases, it seems Disney does not have any immediate plans to end the program. Whichever option you prefer, always have your actual ticket (or annual pass) available should something happen to your other method.

Which option do you prefer? Tell us your thoughts in the comments!
