Following the COVID-19 pandemic, thousands of cast members at both the Disneyland and Walt Disney World theme parks were furloughed or laid off due to their extended closures. However, Disneyland Resort President, Ken Potrock, announced Monday the company plans to bring 1000 cast members back to work at Disney California Adventure thanks to a new plan.
The news came in a letter to workers sent in honor of California Adventure’s 20th anniversary, where it was also announced the park will be partially reopening for a limited-time experience.
At this time, Disneyland is not permitted by the state of California to fully reopen all of its attractions. Because of this, the event won’t be similar to a typical visit it to the park. Instead, guests will only be able to enjoy food and beverages, merchandise, and “carefully crafted entertainment experiences,” according to Potrock in the letter.
In the letter, Potrock also went on to say the California Adventure Park limited reopening is a “very special opportunity … that speaks to our top priorities: getting more Cast Members back to work and engaging with our guests in different and relevant ways.”
The Walt Disney Company first closed all of its 12 theme parks around the world last spring. Since then, select resorts have reopened. However, a few have also been closed again due to new case spikes in select regions of COVID-19.
