In the 1999 film, Star Wars: Episode 1 – The Phantom Menace, Liam Neeson played the Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn and discovered the young Anakin Skywalker on Tatooine. In the epic battle of the film, Darth Maul (Ray Park) fought against the Jedi Master and his apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor). Darth Maul beat Qui-Gon but Obi-Wan would end up winning the battle against Darth Maul. In the 2005 film Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith, Master Yoda reveals to Obi-Wan that Qui-Gon has returned from the “netherworld of the Force” in order to teach both of them how to retain one’s consciousness after death. After this revelation, Obi-Wan takes young Luke Skywalker to Tatooine to watch over him and protect him from the Empire.
With the new Disney+ series coming Obi-Wan Kenobi, taking place place between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, we will get to see what it was like for Obi-Wan during this time while the Empire was at it’s most powerful. It was announced that Hayden Christensen will reprise his role of Anakin Skywalker/Darth Vader in the series. In an interview with Collider, Liam was asked if he would be up for a cameo in the series and he replied, “Sure, I’d be up for that, yeah.”
Of course this doesn’t mean it would happen as Liam did say he hadn’t heard anything about this happening, but knowing he would be on board is great news for Star Wars Fans. We shall see. Obi-Wan has always been a huge fan favorite of the films and I for one am very excited about the series. Filming is set to begin in March 2021 and most likely will debut sometime in early 2022. As more news comes out about the upcoming series, we will be sure to share all the details we get with you.
