In an attempt to stop guests from taking face masks off during their rides on the theme park’s attractions, the company began photoshopping face masks over guests faces in their ride photos. However, the company just revealed they will no longer be exercising this practice.
As many Disney fans know, in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, Walt Disney World now requires all guests visiting any part of the company’s many properties to wear a face mask at all times. The only exception to this rule is when guests are sitting and eating.
All guests are well aware of this rule. Although, it hasn’t stopped some from taking their masks off upon leaving the loading station at attractions. In an attempt to encourage guests to wear their masks on rides, the theme parks began photoshopping masks onto the faces of guests not wearing masks, as seen below in a picture from Facebook user Tony Townsend, as shared by Engadget.

On Monday, the company announced it has decided to stop this practice. “In response to guest requests, we tested modifying some ride photos,” spokesperson Jacquee Wahler said in a press release to USA Today. “We are no longer doing this and continue to expect guests to wear face coverings except when actively eating or drinking while stationary.”
It’s worth noting that Disney is still requiring guests to wear face masks while experiencing park attractions. Additionally, on Disney’s FAQ page on masks, it does state that PhotoPass photographers around the park are not allowed to take visitors’ photos unless they are wearing their mask. It also reads: “If anyone in your ride vehicle’s mask is removed during an on-ride photo, you will not see or receive that photo.”
