Happy Wednesday Main Streeters! I hope you’re all doing well and are ready to catch up for the week! Let’s get to it!
If you’ve been watching our social media accounts, then you know that we were out of town this past weekend. We were guests at Magic City Con in Birmingham Alabama. This was our third year at this convention and it’s one we always look forward to. Jamie who owns Magic City Con is a long time Main Streeter, so it’s even better. We headed for Alabama on Thursday, and the convention started on Friday. It’s a long drive for us so we usually need a day to travel. Corey, who has been on our staff basically since the beginning 9 years ago, also joined us for the weekend with his son. Not only were we in the special guest room, but we also hosted three different panels, which was a lot of fun. It’s great when people are interested in what you do, and actually want to hear what you have to say. The Disney fandom itself is SO huge, and you really get to see how much so when we work conventions like this one.
A few high points for the weekend for me personally would have to be getting to interview Booboo Stewart from Disney’s Descendants and being part of the “Women Who Kick A$$” panel. It’s funny because if you recall, a few weeks ago my friend Cindy talked Scott and I into Disney Bounding as The Descendants with her and her husband for the Villains After Hours event. Little did I know, a couple of weeks later I’d be doing an interview with one of the cast members. Funny how that went full circle! My impression of Booboo Stewart? He’s a class act, very sweet and really gives his time to his fans. Scott hosted his first panel and Corey and I went to watch. I was very impressed with how nice he was to those who came to ask questions. The next day we were talking with Booboo and his dad, and they agreed that it would be fun to do an interview with us. We went in a back hallway where it was quiet and had a great conversation, again, I was really impressed with him. Stay tuned for footage of my interview with Booboo Stewart soon, and don’t forget, Disney’s Descendants 3 will be out in August!
Now, on to the women’s panel. When I found out I was added to a panel for “Women Who Kick A$$” I was a bit nervous, and a little confused. The others in the panel were on AMC’s The Walking Dead, and the other was a voice actor. So, three actresses and me? Ok. Truly, I wasn’t sure what I could add to the discussion but I was willing to give it a go regardless. Let me just say, I’m SO glad that I did. There were young girls in the audience who had questions, looking for maybe a pep talk or some guidance on how to get in the game on whatever their goals are. Kicking butt doesn’t just mean fighting zombies on TV, it’s something that girls face all the time. Something that we CAN do. For me, the main message that I wanted to leave with the people who came to listen, was that they can do whatever they put their minds to. Sure, life has a TON of obstacles, but the key is to not give up, even when you want to. Not only did the audience get something out of this panel, I did as well. Nadine from TWD, sat next to me on the stage, and she’s amazing. She not only gave the audience advice, but I took away some important things from her too. We actually talked for a bit afterwards, and I’m even more of a fan now. It’s amazing how a little kindness and a verbal pat on the back can do wonders for your soul. It was a win/win indeed!
This week we are playing catch up. I feel like we have been SO busy for over a month now, that I haven’t been able to catch my breath. A summer cold on top of it doesn’t help, but I’ll survive. Here’s a feel good story for you…. one of our followers runs a bulldog rescue, and knew that we are familiar with the breed, as we have our bulldog, Jack. She had a sweet little French Bulldog named Ava that she rescued from a breeder in Iowa, and asked if we wanted her. Once we saw her photo, I think there was really no question, so we agreed to take her. Yesterday when we went to pick her up, it was love at first site, she’s absolutely precious. Jack loves her already too. I don’t know what kind of life she had for the past four years, other than the breeder didn’t need her anymore, and that pulls on my heart. She’s very loving and sweet, she seems to be craving the attention so we’re giving that to her. She’s afraid of grass and doesn’t know how to climb up and down the stairs, but we are working with her. When you get a pet from a rescue, you’re doing a great thing… giving an animal a forever home, it’s really good feeling. Here’s Ava! Pretty cute, right?
Well, that’s it for this weeks update. It’s hotter than heck here in Florida currently, but I’m going to TRY to get in some time to relax, possibly some park time is needed too. We shall see. As always, thank you all so much for following along with us every week, it’s truly appreciated. Until next time, sending you all love, blessings and pixie dust! See ya real soon! ~M
