Disney’s abandoned River Country is somewhat finally seeing the light of day again. Unfortunately, we cannot report that River Country’s nostalgic re-emergence from across the shores of Bay Lake is meant to indeed refurbish the area back to it’s former water park glory, one can dream right? Sadly, we must break the news that River Country is officially being demolished.
We have scoped out the area for recent photos and a construction update, which will soon host a brand new hotel called Reflections – A Disney Lakeside Lodge. The 900 room establishment is being billed as an upcoming Disney Vacation Club resort, and is tentatively set to open in 2022.
In the meantime, demolition equipment has made it’s way out to where the water park once stood. The first steps taken have been to remove the water slides and rides. Areas close to the water park’s former entrance have been sectioned off, no doubt for the safety of guests.
Check out the photos of the most recent activity at the site below, and as always please check back for updates. We will do our best to keep you posted on the progress of this new hotel, and if it will affect any of the traffic around Bay Lake and the Magic Kingdom area.
