Happy Wednesday! I don’t know about you, but I’m exhausted. Holiday weekends are always tiring, but this one was especially! It’s been a whirlwind of a week, starting with Magic City Con, so lets chat about it!
Early on Thursday morning we left for Alabama. Our friend Jamie who runs Magic City Con asked us to be guests, and were were excited to be going. Back home in Michigan we used to work craft fairs, but this is a bigger scale. It took us roughly 8 1/2 hours to arrive, and we were tired but happy to be there. The convention was at a hotel attached to a gorgeous mall, so that’s a win for me right there. Set up was on Friday morning, then the festivities began. I wasn’t sure what to expect, but I was hopeful the weekend would be good. We met new people, saw some familiar faces, and had a great time. It’s truly humbling to get to meet the nice folks who support TMSM or those who read my book. My heart was full. Oh, speaking of humbling…. holy cannoli. On Sunday, we went up to the second floor of the convention and spoke with actor Steve Valentine. You may know him from Disney XD, or Crossing Jordan, or Psych (I love this show) among other things. He was an absolute delight. In chatting, he was telling me how his wife was getting into blogging and he asked about my story. The icing on the cake for me? He asked me to sign my book for him. Yes, HE asked ME! I actually laughed and said, “really?” Steven Valentine is amazing, and he truly made my weekend. After talking to Steve, we ran into Ming Chen who is on the tv show Comic Book Men with Kevin Smith. I said hello and he said “Oh you’re that Disney girl!” Why, yes… We grabbed a photo and headed downstairs. I had Scott and Autumn with me, so I know it really happened and I wasn’t delusional. Somewhere between the second floor and our table, I started laughing which turned to crying. Obnoxious yes, but I am what I am, and my emotions took over. We work so hard at all things TMSM, and to get a little recognition like that was a blessing. It’s something I’ll never forget. Thank you, all of you, who support us. It means more than you’ll ever know. A huge thank you to Jamie for having us out.
After the crazy weekend, we decided to add even more crazy and go to the Magic Kingdom for the 4th of July fireworks. I knew it would be crowded, but usually I’m home for the 4th of July and I wanted to keep busy for fear of feeling sad. The park wasn’t bad crowd wise until it got closer to fireworks time. The show was beautiful, truly. No one does fireworks like Disney, that’s a fact. Other fireworks shows fail to compare once you get spoiled by Disney. In case you missed my post…. I put up photos on TMSM’s main Facebook page of what the hub looked like after fireworks. It was trashed, literally. Garbage EVERYWHERE. I never post rants on anything TMSM does, but last night, I was fuming. Those poor Cast Members who had to clean that up! Horrible. Yes, we all pay money to go to Disney, and yes things were hectic, but that’s no excuse to leave garbage on the ground. We saw food trays, cups, food like pretzels, fruit and hot dogs…. even diapers. I’m not kidding. Disney is our happy place and people disrespected it AND the people who work there. I’m feeling another “Don’t be that guy at Disney” blog a brewing. Stay tuned. Other than that, we had a great time. There was a dance party in Frontierland and we danced the night away, so much fun.
So now what? Well, it’s time to play catch up and get work done. Our magazine didn’t go out on the first because we were out of town. I apologize for that, but it’s coming. Also, the items we had at the convention are available now on our etsy shop at https://www.etsy.com/shop/TMSMemporium?ref=pr_shop_more! I have lots of work to do, so that’s it for this week. A huge, heartfelt thank you goes out to all of you who read this blog series each week and follow along with all things TMSM. It’s more than appreciated. Until next time, sending you lots of love, blessings and pixie dust! See ya real soon ! ~M
