TMSM’s Adventures in Florida Living ~ Frozen Fun, Rain and Sixteen Candles

Happy Wednesday Main Streeters! I hope you’re all doing well tonight! We are, but my gosh, it started raining last week and it hasn’t stopped! Granted, Florida needed rain, but it’s been constant! The kids last day of school was last Tuesday, and I don’t think we’ve seen the sun since!  They say a rainy day at Disney is better than a sunny day anywhere else, but my gosh, as Elsa said….. ENOUGH!! Speaking of Elsa…..

Last Friday, it was raining, but we headed to Hollywood Studios to go see the Frozen Sing Along.  Yes, we had seen it many times, but one of the Royal Historians of Arendelle had sent me a message on Instagram, saying if we wanted to come out, he’d get us VIP seats for the show.  How awesome is that?  My boys are not huge Frozen fans, but they ARE huge fans of the Historians in the Sing Along, they are hilarious and make that show amazing.  Ben who plays Erik in the show is our absolute favorite, and we got lucky, because the “Aria” with him that day was our favorite too.  The show was hysterical! We thank them for the great seats!  It was pouring rain after the show, so we actually went back in and watched it again! That’s the last time I’ve been to Disney…… Did I mention the rain?

While we may not have had much Disney time, that’s ok, because we were celebrating another birthday in our house. My older son turned 16 on Sunday. SIXTEEN! How can that be? It seems like just yesterday he was a baby, and now he’s taller than me. Where does the time go? Well, it’s a good thing get didn’t want to go to Disney for his birthday. Did I mention that it’s been raining? Yes? Ok then. He wanted to go shopping and go to his favorite spot to eat, Buffalo Wild Wings. Works for me. It’s funny because when we lived in Michigan, both boys had their shopping/eating rituals for their birthdays. Now that we’re in Florida where there’s actually things to do… they STILL just want to shop and eat, no theme parks. Maybe it’s because it’s like the comforts of home? I don’t know. Aidan chooses Cracker Barrel for his Birthday dinners, Andrew is Buffalo Wild Wings. Simple kids, and that’s fine! But back to this business of having a 16 year old in my house…. I remember my 16th birthday. My parents had a house party, lots of food and cake, and I remember a Mike Tyson fight was on HBO that everyone was watching. Mike Tyson! Yes, I’m dating myself here, but I remember it well. Sixteen was such a huge deal to me back then, and truthfully, it doesn’t seem like THAT long ago. Now, I have a sixteen year old, and it’s surreal. Life passes by so fast, doesn’t it? I wrote about the struggle of watching kids grow up on my lifestyle blog this week, you can read that here ~ http://www.micheleatwood.com/2017/06/05/roller-coaster-emotions-watching-kids-grow/. I’m so blessed with two well behaved boys, and even though they’re growing faster than I’d like, it’s all good. I’m proud. Even if my Disney kids don’t want to spend their birthday’s at Disney…… oh the humanity!

So, Summer Vacation is underway here, and we’ve pretty much been at home. When we were Disney visitors, we’d go to the parks regardless of rain. When you’re a Disney local, you pick and choose, as you can always go back another time when the weather is better. It’s just different now. We try to just roll with it and make the best of things regardless. This summer is going to be a busy one, so down time is good. Well, that’s it for this week. As always I thank you for reading and keeping up with our lives here in Florida, it’s appreciated! Until next time, sending you lots of love, blessings and pixie dust! Stay dry, and I’ll see ya real soon! ~M
