Walt Disney World Fun Facts

See how many you know…..

Many of us claim to be WDW experts, knowing everything from the best restaurants, resorts, time of year to visit…the list could go on and on. But there are probably some things you don’t know about the most magical place on Earth. So sit back, keep your hands and feet inside the vehicle at all times, and enjoy some fun facts about our favorite place.

  • The Walt Disney World monorail trains have total miles logged that would be equal to more than 30 round trips to the moon!
  • WDW has more than 300 transport buses, making it the 3rd largest fleet in Florida (behind Miami and Jacksonville).
  • Disney’s Photopass photographers take between 100,000 and 200,000 photos of guests at the Walt Disney World Resort on any given day. That’s a lot of smiles!
  • There are more than 70,000 cast members as WDW making it the largest single-site employer in the United States.
  • The cast members wash an average of 285,000 pounds of laundry every single day. That doesn’t include the 30,000 to 32,000 items that are dry-cleaned. Imagine that water bill!
  • Some strange items show up in the lost and found! The most unusual have been a glass eye and a prosthetic leg. Of course, the most common item lost is sunglasses. Each day, an average of 210 pairs of sunglasses are turned in.
  • Spaceship Earth is made up of 11,324 aluminum and plastic-alloy triangles and weighs 16 million pounds. You’d need a pretty big golf club to hit that ball!
  • The mosaic mural in the Contemporary Resort is made up of 1,800 one-square foot tiles. If you look closely, there is a five-legged goat facing the monorail track.
  • The tree in Liberty Square in MK, aka “Liberty Oak” is the parent to more than 500 young trees that started out as acorns harvested from the oak.
  • Per year, groundskeepers at WDW mow more than 450,000 miles, or the equivalent of 18 trips around Earth at the equator. Good thing they don’t use push mowers!

And regarding the holidays, here are a few fun holiday facts about WDW

  • It takes 150 semi-trailer truckloads of decorations to decorate the resorts, parks, Disney Springs, and other areas of WDW.
  • There are 1,500 decorated Christmas trees at WDW.
  • Disney has gone green and is using LED lights on the trees. 700,000 total lights. Put the strings of lights together and the strand would stretch 96 miles!
  • The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights is over 10 miles of rope lights. They’re now retired!
