The holiday season is a time for family, love, joy, and celebration. But, sometimes we celebrate a bit to hard, and forget that we shouldn’t get behind the wheel in that condition. Tonight I wanted to take a moment to share with you ways you can safely travel to your resort or home this holiday season.

At Walt Disney World if you are a resort guest, leave your car at your resort and use the parks bus, boat and monorail system as much as possible. If you feel you can’t wait to board a Disney mode of transportation you can look into the same options available to you at home.

If you don’t have a friend that is willing to be a designated driver, you have other options. Before you head out you can always download and use a ride share app. Uber is available in most large cities and their app can be downloaded on Android and Apple devices. Uber usually releases a great New Year’s Even code closer to the holiday, and once it is out we will update this article. Until then if you are new to Uber one of our friends was nice enough to share a coupon code for a free $10.00 ride just use the code kadenc23ue. In the Orlando area you can also contact Mears Transportation (the folks that run the Magical Express) for a cab.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) has created a listing of sober/safe ride programs across the country.   For those that are tech savvy you can download the NHTSA’s “Sober Ride” app to your Apple or Android device. The app is ” the simplest possible way to get home safe and only has three self-explanatory buttons on the Home screen.” It lets the user call a pre-programmed contact for a ride or choose  from a list of available taxi services in your area, and with the tap of a button call them. For those of you that aren’t tech savvy as part of the NHTSA’s “Sober Ride” initiative AAA has a list of sober/safe ride programs across the country posted on their website.

Also, in  several states AAA offers safe ride services on New Year’s eve for members and nonmembers. Please review the options below, and if you find that you need a safe ride home call 1-800-AAA-HELP. A list of their “Holiday Safe Ride” services can be found on their website.
