Happy Wednesday Main Streeters! I hope you all had a fun and safe Halloween weekend! We did! Disney has already moved on from Boo to You season, and they’re jumping into the Christmas festivities with both feet! Can you believe it? Lets recap the past week, then we’ll talk more about the next season at Disney!
Last Thursday we went to Epcot while the kids were at school, as word had spread that MouseGear was starting to get in Christmas merchandise. When we arrived, low and behold, there was a whole section filled with Christmas cheer! They still had Halloween merchandise too, in the next section over. Because we like to stay on top of things, I did a live feed showing the new goodies on our Facebook page. Before I hit “go live” on our page, I braced myself. Disney as you know does things their own way, on their own schedule, and I knew someone would get mad that Disney already put out merchandise for Christmas, and Halloween wasn’t even over yet. Another complaint I get is, “what about Thanksgiving?” I understand why people get annoyed, but I think they forget, it’s not my fault. Don’t shoot the messenger, so to speak! Regardless, I’m used to getting a variety of feedback, and honestly, the vast majority is positive, so I try to roll with the punches. People seemed really happy to see the holiday items, and I’m more than happy to show them! So yes, Christmas came early for Disney park goers, and the merchandise is pretty adorable if I do say so myself!
It was month end, so our weekend was a bit more low key. We had to get our magazine done, plus factor in that Halloween was on Monday, so it was a busy time. Fun has to take a backseat to work, even on weekends when it comes to the magazine! We did however have fun on Halloween. We worked all day, then when the kids got home from school, I zombied them up and we headed out. On the other side of World Drive, there’s a little entertainment complex called Old Town. They do trick or treating there for kids of all ages, so that’s where we went on Halloween night. It’s a really cute spot with fun shops and places to eat. We had a really nice time at Old Town, they do a great job for Halloween! So, it’s time to get real….. I cried on Halloween. You’re probably thinking, “why is she crying this time?” I can laugh at myself! The reason was just the simple fact of missing home. Halloween time for us, since my boys were babies, meant trick or treating at my parents house, their neighborhood was the place to be. Her neighbors all knew the kids, we had traditions, even a certain trick or treat route we’d take. Every year. Last year we were home for Halloween, but my brother got married that night, so we didn’t do our traditional evening. You’d think after over two years I’d be used to the change, but sometimes it’s not easy. Holidays away from family are the worst, but we did have a fun evening. Thank God we’re going home for Christmas! Speaking of……
Halloween was over on Monday night, and Tuesday morning I was getting messages that the Mickey pumpkins were gone, and Christmas wreaths were out in full effect. So yes, truly overnight, Disney switched holidays. Don’t ask me about Thanksgiving, I don’t have an answer on that one! This weekend, Friday to be exact, the new Castle projection show starts, and Celebrate the Magic will be officially retired. Sigh. Changes. It’s going to be a madhouse, but we’re planning on hitting the Magic Kingdom Friday night to get footage of the new show, so stay tuned! I’m going to miss Celebrate the Magic, but I’m hopeful the next production will be equally as good, if not better! Also, the first Castle lighting for the season is tonigh! There’s a lot going on!
Well, that’s about it for this week. By the time we talk again, I’ll be in full on preparation mode, because our big meet up is next weekend, November 12. Not only do I have to get ready for the meet up, I have to get my house ready too, because my Michigan friends are staying with us again! It will be nice to have them here! Thank you so much for keeping up with us each week! Until next Wednesday, sending you lots of huge, blessings and pixie dust! See ya real soon! ~M
