A dream is a wish your heart makes…”
11 long years…is a long time to wait for your family to start. Mind you, we weren’t intentionally waiting, it’s just the way it worked out. My husband and I had 11 years and several trips to Walt Disney World as a couple, no kids, no ties, and got to do, see, eat, drink and experience whatever we wanted to. Still, we were hoping for our family….in fact, every time we did go WDW we wished for our family on Wishes!, held each other tight and keep dreaming.
It was 12 years and 1 day of our wedding anniversary that our first miracle was born in 2014. The stars must have aligned as our anniversary (September) is a favorite time of ours to travel. So naturally, I started planning our first family trip together. We were going to take our long awaited Princess Bella to the Happiest Place on Earth where we had wished for her several times. We had to share our favorite place with our dream come true, am I right? We did so for her 1st birthday!
In my sheer euphoria, I could not contain myself or keep my plans to myself. Of course, came the opinions of countless friends, family and strangers. “She will never remember it.” “What a waste of money.” “Why don’t you wait until she’s older?” There is one thing these people don’t get, that you my fellow Disney fanatics get…the magic is palpable. You can feel it, see it, hear it, smell it and of course taste it (mmmmm premium Mickey bar). Not only that, but ya gotta start them early…*Snickers*
What many people don’t understand is that Disney is not just a product, it’s a way of life. My baby shower was Winnie The Pooh themed as was her nursery and at almost 2 she has quite the Disney repertoire under her little belt. She’s our Disney baby!
On our trip, we did things we’d only ever read and dreamed about. Getting her haircut at the Main Street Barbershop followed by the parade. Sharing that Mickey bar. Having her meet numerous characters that she embraced and hugged and wasn’t scared of. Having a special birthday lunch at Chef Mickey’s with a custom Minnie Mouse birthday cake ordered from the Contemporary Bakery, while Bella wore a matching dress and we wore our proud parents tshirts.
We have those memories forever, and I love showing Bella those pictures. She can name each character she’s met! I’m glad we took her, it was such a special and memorable trip. I would do it again in a heartbeat, in fact I’m starting to coordinate our trip for 2017 where we will be celebrating our 2nd princesses 1st birthday. Our second daughter is due in November and we are excited to share this tradition with her as well.
I guess what they say is true…”A dream is a wish your heart makes” and our Wishes! Are coming true again. I hope my story not only inspires you from doing what your heart tells you to, but to never give up. Miracles happen every single day.
