TMSM Explains: The Difference Between the Kitchen Sink and Mickey’s Kitchen Sink (And Where to Get Both!)

Two desserts at Disney cause a good deal of confusion. This of course may be because they are both ice cream sundaes and share the same name “kitchen sink” but these two items are very different and tonight we are going to explain why!

Mickey’s Kitchen Sink Sundae

Mickey’s Kitchen Sink Sundae is a newer addition to the Disney Parks dessert line-up, it was introduced in 2014. Unlike the gigantic Kitchen Sink which is only available at Walt Disney World, Mickey’s Kitchen Sink is available at Walt Disney World and Disneyland.  The sundae comes in a plastic blow shaped like Mickey Mouse’s red pants, and guests get to take it home with them when they are finished eating it. At Walt Disney World, Mickey’s Kitchen Sink Sundae is currently $14.99* plus tax, and is made* using the following (Per current WDW Signage):

  • 2 scoops of hand-scooped chocolate, your choice of one sauce (Hot fudge, Peanut Butter, Caramel, or Strawberry Sauce), chocolate and peanut butter chips, whipped cream and a cherry12108931_10204843980210668_7576055267479377764_n

At Disneyland guests have a LOT more choices to make when they order their Mickey’s Kitchen Sink.  Currently guests can choose from the following five* versions of Mickey’s Kitchen Sink, which are all currently priced at $13.49 before tax. The following are per the official Disneyland Menu:

  • The Oswald Sundae: One scoop of Vanilla and one scoop Chocolate Ice Cream with Hot Fudge, Whipped Cream, Chocolate Chips, Cherry, Waffle Cup, and a Chocolate Dipped Banana

  • Mint Chocolate Chip Sundae: Two scoops of Mint Chocolate Chip Ice Cream served in a Waffle Cup topped with Hot Fudge, Whipped Cream, Chocolate Chips, and a Cherry

  • Chocolate Chip Cookie Hot Fudge Sundae: Two scoops of Vanilla Ice Cream and two Freshly Baked Chocolate Chip Cookies topped with Whipped Cream, Chocolate Morsels, and a Cherry

  • Strawberry Sundae: Two scoops of Vanilla Ice Cream served in a Waffle Cup topped with Strawberry Sauce, Whipped Cream, and a Cherry

  • Mocha Almond Fudge Sundae: Two scoops of Mocha Almond Fudge Ice Cream served in a Waffle Cup topped with Hot Fudge, Caramel, Whipped Cream, and a Cherry

The Kitchen Sink

12321582_10208149306628056_4338354335321427238_nThe original “Kitchen Sink” is a whooper of a sundae and is only available at Beaches and Cream, a table service dining location at Disney’s Beach Club Resort. It is highly recommended you make a reservation at Beaches and Cream if you want to tackle the Kitchen Sink. Many Disneyland guests may remember it being available at PCH Grill at Paradise Pier but it seems during the restaurant’s last major redo it was discontinued.
1455048_10205301932001234_4456465446360508072_nThe Kitchen Sink “Serves 4” and currently per the official Disney Dining site costs $29* before tax and the metal sink bowl it is served in does not go home with guests. Per the Disney Parks Blog the Original Kitchen Sink is made using the following:

  • ½ cup fudge topping, warmed
  • ½ cup butterscotch topping, warmed
  • ½ cup peanut butter topping, warmed
  • 1 medium banana, sliced in 1/2 –inch slices
  • 1 cinnamon spice cupcake (2 ½ x 1 ¼-inch), quartered
  • 1 angel food cupcake (3 x 1 ½-inch), quartered
  • 2 4-oz. scoops vanilla ice cream
  • 2 4-oz. scoops chocolate ice cream
  • 2 4-oz. scoops strawberry ice cream
  • 1 4-oz. scoop mint chocolate chip ice cream
  • 1 4-oz. scoop coffee ice cream
  • 3 tablespoons chocolate syrup
  • ¼ cup marshmallow crème
  • ¼ cup strawberry topping
  • ¼ cup pineapple topping
  • 1 14-oz can dairy whipped topping
  • 1 brownie (6-inch x 6-inch), quartered
  • 1 regular-sized (2 ounce) candy bar, quartered
  • 4 chocolate cookies with cream filling
  • 1 tablespoon sliced toasted almonds
  • 1 tablespoon dark and white chocolate shavings
  • 1 tablespoon chocolate cookies with cream filling, crushed
  • 1 tablespoon chopped jellied orange slices (approximately 2 large slices)
  • 1 tablespoon milk chocolate chip morsels
  • 1 tablespoon peanut butter chip morsels
  • 1 tablespoon chocolate sprinkles
  • 1 tablespoon rainbow sprinkles
  • ½ cup drained maraschino cherries

(Per the official Disney Dining site menu the Kitchen sink is “Also available Chocolate Lovers and Neapolitan.”)
