Happy Wednesday Main Streeters! My gosh, it’s been a busy week since we chatted the last time, I have so much to catch you up on! I’ll try to give you the short version, so this blog doesn’t turn into a book! Lets get started!
If you’ve followed me on our various social media outlets, you may know some of what we’ve been up to. If not, then we’ll have a lot to talk about. Last Friday night, we had media passes for a convention in Orlando called Spooky Empire. Now, I never, ever used to be a convention kind of girl, but I’m actually sort of a convert. Yes, for the love of TMSM, I’ve been to Comic Con, Walker Stalker Con, and now Spooky Empire. Spooky Empire is a nod to horror and science fiction films, and really was a fun time. They also had some booths on one of my favorite tv shows, The Walking Dead, so that was an added bonus. Part of the fun for these kinds of conventions, are the celebrity meet and greets. Plus you never know who you’ll see walking around While we were standing in line for the ATM, we chatted up Robb Demarest from Ghost Hunters International and he talked about the new show he has coming up. He was really nice.
We went into the celebrity meet room, and had a blast. My younger son got to talk to and shake hands with Heather Langenkamp from Nightmare on Elm Street, she was quite pleasant. The original Nightmare film was my favorite, my brothers too, as he is a huge fan of the series. For me, the person I wanted to meet was Anthony Michael Hall. He has been in some of my favorite movies. When I was a kid, John Hughes movies were everything… Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, etc. Not only did I get to meet him, we talked a bit, he signed a Sixteen Candles poster for me and spelled my name right (bonus), and took a bunch of pics with us. He was really sweet to my boys too, asked their names, talked to them as well. It was a high point for me, my inner teenager was thrilled. Such a fun evening! We thank the people at Spooky Empire for having us out!
On Saturday, it was time to head over to Hollywood Studios to say goodbye to the backlot area of the park. I knew that it was going to be the last day for the stunt show, Streets of America, Monsters Inc meet, Honey I Shrunk the Kids play area…. that whole section was on it’s last day. We had friends in town, so we met up with them to catch the last showing of Lights, Motors, Action. I hadn’t done the stunt show in YEARS, but I’m glad we were there for the final performance. The drivers and actors were so appreciative of the audience enthusiasm, and it was great to see them go out on a high note. After the show was done, we met more friends over at the Honey I Shrunk the Kids area, to check that out for the last time. We made it over just in time to see it before it was closed for good!
The Monsters Inc spot was already wrapped up, so we went to the Streets of America to get some final pictures. We have a lot of great memories there, from the Osborne Lights to just strolling around having family time. Realizing that that’s our last visit ever to that location was sad, somewhat bittersweet. Yes, I’m looking forward to what’s coming up at the Studios, but I sure will miss what’s being lost in the transition. As you know, change is hard for me, I might have said that a time or two. All in all, we had a really great day, and I’m thankful I was there to see those attractions one last time.
On Sunday, we got word that the new Star Wars stage show was starting up at the Studios, so we got ready and ran over there to get some footage. The show wasn’t supposed to start until Monday, so this was a surprise. If you are a Star Wars fan, then you’ll probably like the new presentation. There is also a Stormtrooper processional with Captain Phasma from the Force Awakens that’s kind of cool as well. I am putting the footage on the link below so you can see the new additions for yourself! Be sure to subscribe to our YouTube channel too for more!
Wow, it’s been a busy week! This weekend coming up, I have to get my house and site work in order, as my family is coming here for a visit next week. I haven’t had anyone from Michigan in town for months, so I’m really excited to have them here! I can’t go home until Summer, so for now, they are coming to me, and I’m looking forward to it. As always, I thank you from the bottom of my heart, for reading and following along with our adventures each week. Don’t forget to follow along on Instagram and Snapchat too, so you can keep up with me all week long! Until next time… sending you lots of hugs, blessings and pixie dust! See ya real soon! ~M
