Today In Disney History ~ March 31st

The African-themed Animal Kingdom Lodge is deluxe resort at the Walt Disney World Resort. The original building, which was called Animal Kingdom Lodge until 2009, opened on April 16, 2001 and was designed by Peter Dominick of Urban Design Group. In October 2006 Disney Vacation Club announced an expansion for the Animal Kingdom Lodge. Several rooms in the original building were turned into DVC Villas, and the new building Kidani Village was built. Kidani Village opened on May 1, 2009, which is when the original ” Animal Kingdom Lodge” building was renamed Jambo House. Animal Kingdom Lodge has several private savannas including Kudu Trail, Zebra Trail, Ostrich Trail, Giraffe Trail and Kidani Village. Dining wise AKL is the home of Sanaa, Jiko – The Cooking Place, and Boma – Flavors of Africa.
