When the newsboys took the stage in 2011, the cast was full of relatively unknown actors, singers, and dancers. Most of this was due to the fact that the average age of the cast was relatively low (these men had to pass for boys). Jeremy Jordan, who played strike leader Jack Kelly, had made his Broadway debut in Rock of Ages. Earlier in 2011, he had played Clyde in the doomed Broadway production of Bonnie and Clyde opposite Laura Osnes. Jordan has since gone on to star in TV (Smash and Supergirl) and movies (The Last Five Years). He impressed critics and audiences as Jack Kelly, earning a Tony nomination for his role.
When Jordan left the production in 2012, Kelly was played by Corey Cott, making his Broadway debut in the role. He has since gone on to star opposite Vanessa Hudgens in the Broadway revival of Gigi.
Kelly’s love interest Katherine was played by relative newcomer Kara Lindsay. Lindsay has gone on to join the national tour of Wicked as Glinda.
