Today In Disney History ~ January 8th
The first Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend was held on 1/16/94. The Half Marathon was added in 1998. This weekend during the 22nd Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend races include runDisney Kids Races, the Family Fun Run 5K (3.1 miles), the Walt Disney World® 10K (6.21 miles), the Walt Disney World® Half Marathon (13.1 miles) and the Walt Disney World® Marathon (26.2 miles). This years challenges (which allow runners to participate in several events) include the 48.6 mile long Dopey Challenge (5K, 10K, Half Marathon and Marathon) and the 39.3 mile long Goofy’s Race and a Half Challenge (the 13.1 Goofy’s Race and full Marathon).
Participants in this year’s Walt Disney World Marathon Weekend also were given the option to book the 4-night cruise on the Dream leaving 1/11/16 and running the Castaway Cay 5k. By doing this runners will receive a Disney Castaway Cay Challenge medal.
