From the Disney Insider
With Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ December 18 debut only a few weeks away, Walt Disney Studios announced a new collaboration with Google, and we’re pretty excited about it. With it, fans will be able to share in two new immersive experiences—one referred to as Awaken the Force Within, and another that utilizes Google Cardboard Virtual Reality (VR).
First up, is the Awaken the Force Within global program, which you’ll be able to access by logging onto google.com/starwars. Once you do that, you’ll be prompted to pledge allegiance to either the Light or Dark side. After a side is chosen, your Google apps will be changed to reflect the decision. Of the apps, special transformations have been crafted for Android Wear Watches, Chrome, Gmail, Google Maps, Google Calendar, Chromecast, Waze, YouTube, and Google Now. Several features have also been added to Inbox, Google Translate, and Google Search. Yes, your entire digital life could get a super-cool Star Wars makeover.
As for Google Cardboard, once December 2 rolls around, Verizon and Google will be launching a new serialized VR experience, which features brand new content connected to the opening of the upcoming film. We’re not quite sure what they’ll be showing off, but we’re definitely looking forward to finding out.
The VR experience will be launching via the official Star Wars app (which we love and is full of adorable emoji), and will be available on Android and iOS devices.
