Screen Shot 2015-11-20 at 9.10.29 AM   “A view of calm seas is interrupted by a deep voice: “There has been an awakening. Have you felt it?” Recently the crew of the U.S. Navy’s USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (CVN 69) released an amazing Star Wars trailer spoof  “Sea Wars, The Ike Awakens” on their official YouTube channel. “CVN69 IKE”, the official YouTube channel for the carrier, is run by the ship’s media group. This channel allows the ship to share their lives and news from the ship with their loved ones  at home in a secure and OPSEC approved manner. It also helps keep Sailors moral up while underway by letting them express themselves in creative and fun ways, like this trailer.

Using items found on the carrier, the crew recreated a part of one of the Star Wars: The Force Awakes trailers. Viewers will see a F18 from the VFC-12 Ambush a United States Navy Reserve fighter squadron which is attached to Naval Air Station Oceana (whose airfield makes an appearance), a Marine T-45 that is partially covered by a Navy Sith Lord, the CVN 69 herself, a firefighting  foam delivery tractor, and the star of it all that show stealing Droid Caddy-8*.

Make sure you share this and show our Navy men and women some love for their creativity!

*In the U.S. Navy a metal bucket on wheels where you put a mop in to get it wet. Hanging on top, a little over the interior, is a metal hand-operated squeegie. This combination is referred to as a “Cadillac” or sometimes a “Caddy.”

A special “Thanks” to Andrew Shumate and Rick Haan for their help in identifying planes and confirming military terms!
