From Cole Horton and posted on the Official Star Wars Blog.
Star Wars fans and runners across the galaxy have a lot to look forward to in 2016. Many Star Wars fans have already signed up for the second runDisney Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend at the Disneyland Resort in January. Now, Star Wars is coming to Florida for an all new Half Marathon at the Walt Disney World Resort! If you want to take part in these Force-filled fitness events in 2016, here is what you need to know.
The runDisney Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend – The Light Side returns to the Disneyland Resort from January 14-17, 2016. Like last year, it includes runs for all ages and skill levels: kids races, 5K, 10K, and half marathons. The event sold out in record time, but registration is still available for a limited time through runDisney Charity Groups and Travel Partners on runDisney.com
On the other side of the Force is runDisney Star Wars Half Marathon Weekend – The Dark Side at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida! This new event takes place from April 14-17, 2016. If you are a fan of stormtroopers, red lightsabers, and the dark side of the Force, this is the event for you! The new Half Marathon Weekend also features kids races, a 5K fun run, a 10K, and a half marathon. Runners who sign up for the Star Wars Dark Side Challenge and complete both the 10K and half marathon will earn a special dark side-themed challenge medal.
With both events comes an all-new trial: The runDisney Kessel Run Challenge! The coast-to-coast challenge is for runners who participate in both runDisney Star Wars Half Marathons in 2016. The Kessel Run holds a special place in Star Wars lore as a true test of speed and skill. Similarly, the runDisney Kessel Run Challenge will be the ultimate test for runDisney Star Wars participants.
In 2015, I ran the Star Wars 5K and 10K, totaling 9.3 miles. In 2016, I’m going to run all of the Star Wars races: that’s two 5Ks, two 10Ks, and two half marathons for a grand total of 44.8 miles spread between each of the runDisney Star Wars race weekends.
I’m still a new runner, but thanks to all of the running resources from runDisney this is a challenge I’m excited to take on! runDisney has great training plans for new and experienced runners alike, helpful tips from fitness experts, and huge fitness expos at each event featuring the latest gear and knowledgeable guest speakers.
Whether you are running your first 5K or looking to participate in a multi-race challenge, I’ve found that runDisney races welcome everyone. The field of participants includes fans of all fitness levels, body types, and running experience. Everyone I met was incredibly supportive and motivating, and for Star Wars fans like us, there is nothing more motivating than a Star Wars-themed race!
If you are looking for a great reason to improve your fitness or just want to experience a new side of Star Wars fandom, check out the upcoming runDisney races at runDisney.com.
