*From Disney Family!
Disney Side fun at home is easy peasy with an ear-resistible puppet project inspired by the one-and-only Mickey Mouse. Designed to blow your socks off and provide some magical homespun family entertainment, this craft is bound to fit the bill.
What You’ll Need
Black Hanes™ Men’s Crew Sock
Scissors
Thin cardboard
Stiff black felt
Regular felt (tan, white, and red)
Low-temperature glue gun and toothpick (for applying glue to small pieces)
Fiberfill or another material for stuffing the puppet’s head
Pair of ½-inch white buttons
How To Make It
1 Print the template and use the pieces as patterns to cut out the specified felt and cardboard shapes.
2 To create the mouth, turn the sock inside out. Then fold the cardboard face circle in half, and glue it to the inner sock toe, sandwiching the fabric between the halves as shown.
3 Turn the sock right side out and set it on a flat surface with the heel side up. Then glue the tan face onto the sock, lining up the lower edge with the upper edge of the mouth as shown.
4 Glue the eye whites atop the eye backings. Glue the eyes and nose in place on the felt face piece, using the shaded areas on the template as reference for placement.
5 Glue the tongue in place, centering it on the inner edge of lower mouth.
6 Glue the circular portion (but not the lower tabs) of two of the felt ear pieces together as shown. Glue the remaining two felt ear pieces together in the same manner. Glue each ear to the sock by its tabs (spreading them in opposite directions) about ¾ inch from the top of the face.
7 Loosely stuff the head with fiberfill. Then pull the sock over a bottle so you can dress the puppet.
8 For Mickey’s shorts, wrap a 3½- by 12-inch piece of red felt around the puppet and glue the overlap together. Then glue the white buttons to the front.
