Happy Wednesday Main Streeters! It’s time for our weekly update, but this week is completely different. I have nothing Florida related to write about…. shocking, I know. Nope, this weeks blog is about changes in location, like the title suggests, and now I have that Jimmy Buffett song in my head to boot. It sure doesn’t feel tropical though, as it’s been chilly in Michigan! Yes, Florida living is Michigan living this week! Let’s chat, shall we?
Vacations used to consist of packing the kids in the car, and driving 18 hours south to see Mickey Mouse and friends. Well, since moving to Florida, vacations are the exact opposite. Now we leave Mickey and head north to see family and friends. It’s really strange, we never used to look forward to going back to Michigan when we were on a Florida vacation, but now, going home is something I love and need. Going home gives me a reboot. It’s hard being away from the people I love most, so I have enjoyed being here. Let’s see…… what have we been up to?
Well, on the Fourth of July my parents hosted a big pool party, and invited all our family over, friends too. I haven’t seen some of them in a year, some since Christmas, so I was really happy about that. When we lived here, pool parties and get togethers were a regular occurrence, and something I truly miss. We had a great day, the weather held out, and the kids had fun swimming. Seems though, afterwards, the weather got chilly and summer was feeling more like Fall! I packed summer clothes so I actually went to the store to buy a couple long sleeved shirts! Ugh, Michigan weather! We also had an afternoon with just the adults, and went to lunch and one of the Casino’s in Detroit, just us and my parents, and my brother and soon to be sister in law. We had a fun time… didn’t win any money though! It’s so nice getting to see my parents daily, I miss them so much down in Florida. They miss us too, but they support our efforts and are extremely proud of what we’ve accomplished. Doesn’t get much better than that.
For the past week, we’ve been hitting all of our favorite spots, like restaurants and places to shop. We went to a local street fair (which we never see in Florida) and heard one of our favorite local bands play (The Mega 80’s are fantastic). In addition to seeing family, we had a luncheon at a friends house, and we had a wonderful afternoon. My two favorite girls here, Paula and Michelle, are a huge support to me and I appreciate them so much. They came to our meet up last October and are attending again this year. I miss spending time with them, so having lunch at Michelle’s house was great. The boys miss their “aunties” too, so I’m glad we did that. Time here has been so busy, and went by so darn fast. My parents took us out for a fun afternoon this week to a mini golf place, where the boys got to ride go-karts, bumper cars, go on bungee trampolines, etc. They had such a good time. Ok, I had fun too… I haven’t been in a batting cage in years!
Now, as our Michigan vacation is wrapping up, I’m thinking about Florida and all the work to be done there. We have to get the August edition of The Main Street Monthly ready, and I know how much work that entails. I’m tired just thinking about it. I’d also like to squeeze in some park time before the kids go back to school. School starts so early in Florida compared to what we are used to, and I know the summer fun is becoming less and less. Things are reversed, like I said. Now, instead of vacation, Florida means back to work. It’s funny…. a change in location really does bring change in how you feel. While I do love our lives in Florida, I miss things here as well. I was feeling a little stressed before leaving Florida, and being back home lightened that up a bit and is just what I needed. So, next week’s blog will be back to Florida living, but this week, well, Michigan living has been pretty darn good too! Thanks as always for keeping up with our adventures! Until next week, sending you blessings, hugs and pixie dust! See ya real soon! ~M
