Hosted by Leonard Matlin, the night kicks off with several Disney animated shorts. First up will be Donald Duck’s “Beach Picnic” followed by Mickey Mouse’s “The Simple Things” and “Hawaiian Holiday.” The first full length movie of the night will be Johnny Tremain, the tale of a pre-Revolutionary silversmith and his involvement with the Sons of Liberty. As we switch into the history/documentary section of the night the next show will be Walt Disney’s Wonderful World of Color episode “The Liberty Story” and the animated short “Ben and Me” will air. This episode of WoC includes animated and live-action “representations of America’s struggle for independence.” Next up is the first documentary of the night “The Living Desert” which shows the lives of animals in America’s deserts.
As we continue on into the night with our Americana themed selections the next movie for the night will be Fess Parker’s “The Great Locomotive Chase” about a Union spy that tries to destroy the Confederacy’s rail system. As we enter the point of the night where many East Coast based Disney fans will be relying on their DVR, “Treasure of Matecumbe” will air at 2 AM. “Treasure of Matecumbe” focuses on David Burnie in post-Civil War Kentucky and his adventures surrounding a treasure map that lead him to the Florida island of Matecumbe. The final movie of July’s edition of Vault Disney is “Rascal” which is about a young boy and a baby racoon.
