Today In Disney History ~ June 15th
At the time of its release, Atlantis: The Lost Empires had made greater use of computer-generated imagery (CGI) than any of Disney’s previous animated features. It premiered at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, California on 6/3/01 and it’s general release was on 6/15/01. The movie was budgeted at $100 million, and grossed over $186 million worldwide. $84 million of that was earned in North America. It was nominated for seven Annie Awards and won Best Sound Editing at the 2002 Golden Reel Awards.The direct to VHS/DVD sequel Atlantis: Milo’s Return was released in 2003.
