This weeks Florida Living blog is about parties! The 24 Hour Party at the Magic Kingdom, and a home celebration for my little guy, as he had his first Florida birthday! Things have been so busy, but we’re doing our best to keep up! The 24 Hour Party was a lot of fun. Last year we watched the festivities from home, so we were excited to be able to attend this time. It was Aidan’s birthday weekend (yes, he requires a whole weekend) so we knew it would be a busy one.

One thing he had requested for his Birthday was to see the movie Tomorrowland! As luck would have it, he was able to attend the Disney Parks Blog showing of the movie, and had to be at the Magic Kingdom at 6 am on the day of the party. I knew it would be a long day for him, but he really wanted to go. I’m thankful that Aidan had the opportunity to attend, he had a great time, and got a Tomorrowland hat and pins to boot! He was one happy boy!

Later that day, we headed to the Magic Kingdom with both boys to have some fun. I was fortunate enough to be able to meet up with some Main Streeters at the party, which is always a great thing. It fills my heart up to meet the people who follow our site, I’ll write more about that tomorrow! While we were standing up front, Aidan was chosen to help the Dapper Dans recite the Pledge of Allegiance for the Flag Retrieval Ceremony, so his day just got better. We hung out with friends, my older son Andrew had one of his good friends from school meet us, and we had an nice time. We didn’t last through the night though, since Aidan and my husband were up early for the movie, they were tired and we were home by 2 am. We did our best!

The day after the 24 Hour Party was a lazy one. We were all pretty tired, so we didn’t do much. We did however find a restaurant about 25 minutes away that is owned by Detroiters, so we had a little “home” food which was nice. It’s not the same as home of course, but it worked in a pinch! Sunday, we headed to Universal Studios for the day. We wanted to keep busy and keep the holiday weekend going, it helps relieve some of my home sickness! We had fun, and of course were sure to hit both Harry Potter rides, then closed the day at Margaritaville!

By the time Aidan’s actual Birthday was here, we were exhausted, but I let him choose what he wanted to do. It was Memorial Day so things were busy across town and in the parks. He chose Blizzard Beach for his outing. It rained on and off, but we made the best of it. He wanted Cracker Barrel for dinner, then we ate cake and played checkers before bed. My Dad texted me a picture of my family from home, sitting around at a BBQ, all waving hello from Michigan. I got a little teary eyed. I miss them all the time, but especially on holidays or when I know that we would all be together. I find myself missing home more these past few weeks, it’s not always easy to be away from people that you love, but I’m trying my best to hang in there. I can’t wait for another visit.

This morning, we had to go to a media event out at Sea World. The unveiled the name of their new roller coaster that is coming next summer, and we got to see a sneak preview. Another part of the media outing, was the ability to ride up in a crane to see the construction site. 200 feet up in the air? No problem! They harness you in….. and make you sign a waiver, but hey, it’s part of the job! Fun times! Oh, and the new coaster is called Mako, after the shark, and looks to be pretty exciting. We’re doing a full write up for Off TMSM, so stay tuned!
