It’s a Sinking World After All
While trying to write this week’s article I came across a great urban legend that I just HAD to cover. “The last song played by the band on the Titanic was “it’s a small world” Just imagine, the people fleeing the sinking ship suddenly getting “it’s a world of laughter a world of tears” stuck in their heads! Obviously this legend is fake, but let’s go over WHY!
The RMS Titanic left on it’s maiden voyage on 4/10/1912 and she sunk five days later after being hit by an iceberg. While the ship sank, the musicans on the ship that were contracted to play on the ship by C.W. & F.N. Black a company that contracted musicians for British ocean liners. The musicians played music as the ship sank, hoping to help calm the passengers. All eight perished the night the Titanic sank.
Now as we all know the Sherman Brothers (both born at LEAST 10 years after the Titanic sunk) wrote the music and lyrics for “it’s a small world” in 1963. So though I know I am NOT a math major, I know this proves that with a 51 year time gap, this legend though somewhat humorous it totally busted!
“Disney will replace damaged or broken DVDs for a small fee.”
Quiet honestly I have no idea why this became a legend or myth. As most Disney fans will tell you, our DVDs and Blu-rays get played A LOT. Disney being the amazing company that it is will in fact replace damaged discs for a small charge ( $6.95 per DVD and $8.95 per Blu-ray). To process a replacement movie owners should send the damaged disc(s) and a check or money order and a completed replacement form to the appropriate mailing address. I was only able to find information on this service being offered in the US and Canada, but we would love for readers from other countries to send us Disney Disc Replacement information for their region if it it available in Europe and South American so that we can compile a set list of contact information for Main Streeters!
