The biggest day of the year for film fans is almost here! This morning, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the contenders for the 87th Academy Awards, or Oscars, and Disney was among those with the honor of receiving at least one nomination.
In fact, Disney films earned 9 nominations in total, including nods for Best Animated Feature (Big Hero 6), Best Animated Short (Feast), Best Production Design (Into the Woods), Best Makeup and Hairstyling (Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy), two for Best Costume Design (Into the Woods, Maleficent), and two for Best Visual Effects (Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, Marvel’s Captain America: The Winter Soldier. Actress Meryl Streep also received a nomination for Best Actress In a Supporting Role for her work as the Witch in Into the Woods.
