From the Disney Insider: Since it came out last month, we’ve logged a lot of hours in Disney Infinity (2.0 Edition). It’s safe to say that we’ve put the game through its paces and, ok–sure–occasionally dropped the pretense that we’re “researching” and have had a lot of fun building huge Disney castles and setting silly adventures around them. The game is a massive upgrade from the first version of Disney Infinity, which came out last year, pushing almost every aspect of the game forward into new territory.
The characters. For the first time, Marvel characters have been added to the Disney Infinity universe. Now you can play through action-filled adventures starring The Avengers, Spider-Man, and The Guardians of the Galaxy. Not only that, but more Disney characters like Stitch, Aladdin, and Jasmine continue to come out, and you can create all new scenarios in the Toy Box that feature never-before-imagined character team-ups like Maleficent and Loki, Baymax and The Hulk, or Spider-Man and Donald Duck.
A bigger Toy Box – and the tools to match. Advances in the technology that drives Disney Infinity and the video game consoles that run it now allow players to do much, much more. You can create bigger worlds with more special effects, and go further in creating unique experiences of your own designing.
You write the story you want to play. In addition to creating new physical worlds and playable mini-games, you can finally add stories to your Toy Box creations with the text editor. This tool allows you to give dialogue to formerly silent characters, and add text prompts for fleshing out the story you are telling.
Dynamic combat action. Combat in the game has been stepped up in a big way. Each character now has a unique move-set for fighting off enemies, and that move-set can be configured to each individual gamer’s personal style.
Character progression. As you use your toys, they become stronger! Characters become experienced as they go through missions, allowing you to level them up, adding thrilling new mechanics and moves to them along the way.
An expanded range of Power Discs. The number of power discs available for customizing your worlds and characters has more than doubled. Some Power Discs allow you to add visual themes to your Toy Box creations that match your favorite films’ looks. Some bring to life special accessories for your characters, like vehicles, weapons, sidekicks, or super powers.
Linkable worlds. Not only are you able to create bigger worlds thanks to 2.0 Edition’s more robust technology, but you can add doors that help players seamlessly move between multiple Toy Box creations. With this feature, you can create a whole new Disney Infinity experience of your own, with a size to rival the professional productions put out by the team at Disney themselves.
Builders will help you. Thanks to the increased capacity of the Toy Box, the canvas to fill with your original creation has just gotten much bigger. But filling it up doesn’t have to take up too much time; a number of new tools in 2.0 Edition help speed the creative process along. You can let the game generate structures automatically, or assign a Creator toy to build alongside you.
Toy Box Game Discs. We were introduced to Toy Box Play Sets in Disney Infinity 1.0, each containing a series of levels that tells a complete story within the universe of a single franchise, like Cars, Monsters University, or Pirates of the Caribbean. This time around, we also get Game Discs, which are unique game-types, pushing gameplay into new genres like Tower Defense or Action RPGs, and are a wonderful example of what creative Toy Box creators can aspire to do with the game’s robust toolset.
New ways to get around. Running and jumping was so last year. In the new world of Disney Infinity (2.0 Edition), you can climb walls, fly in fighter jets, and even swing on spider webs when you want to get from Point A to Point B, depending on which character you choose to play with.
This is just the beginning. The absolute best part of Disney Infinity (2.0 Edition) is easily the community of gamers like us–and maybe you!–who are creating new experiences within the Toy Box and sharing them with the game’s robust community tools. Every time you turn on Disney Infinity, there is the potential to play a game you’ve never played before… even if you turn it on every single day.
Disney Infinity (2.0 Edition) is out now for all of the major video game consoles, including Xbox 360, Xbox One, Playstation 3, Playstayion 4, and Wii U. There are even free versions to try out on iPad, PC, and Windows 8. Head over to the official Disney Infinity website to find out more.
