From the Oh My Disney Blog
There are certain movies that every Disney fan has watched over and over again. You can probably name them off the top of your head: The Lion King, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Toy Story, etc. If you’re anything like us, you’ve worn out a few DVD’s (and VHS tapes back in the day) by watching them so many times! (Digital copies were obviously created for people like us who are constantly watching Disney movies on repeat.)
Somewhere between our 999th and 1,000th viewing of Hercules, we realized there were a few Disney movies that we hadn’t seen in a very long time. This horrifying discovery had to be remedied immediately, so we set about creating a list of the sixteen that we (and most likely you) need to watch again:
1. The Hunchback of Notre Dame
Everyone can relate to Quasimodo when he sings “Out There.” Even if you’ve never lived in a bell tower, you can appreciate that yearning to get out of your bubble to see the world. And hey, Hunchback can be your (animated) introduction to it. You’ll be one step closer to the real thing than before you hit play.
2. One Hundred and One Dalmatians
We have not one, not two, but one hundred and one reasons why you should rewatch this movie. For the sake of space we won’t list them all here. Even if you’re not a dog person, you can appreciate Sergeant Tibbs the cat. He never gives up on saving the puppies. Maybe it has something to do with having nine lives?
3. The Aristocats
Okay, cat people: admit it. You want to be a cat. Everybody does! But if you can’t remember every reason why a cat’s the only cat who knows where it’s at, then you’ve just proved our point that you need to watch The Aristocats right now!
4. The Great Mouse Detective
There are cat people, there are dog people, and then there are mouse people. It’s hard not to love Disney mice. It was all started by Mickey Mouse, but Basil and Olivia Flaversham continued the tradition. It’s elementary, dear reader. Mice are amazing, and we can deduce that you should watch this movie again.
5. The Rescuers Down Under
We love the original, but we also really appreciate The Rescuers Down Under. The movie has some of the most thrilling flying scenes we’ve ever seen, plus Bernard trying to propose is just too adorable. There is action, romance, and adventure! Basically a win, win, win. (P.S. You should re-watch The Rescuers too.)
6. Fantasia
One of our writers decided to learn how to play an instrument because of this movie. Fantasia is THAT inspiring. It’s kind of like going to a classical concert, an art museum, and a ballet all at the same time. If you feel like being classy, watch this movie again. Monocles are optional.
7. Dumbo
Did you ever realize that Dumbo never talks? That’s pretty impressive for the title character. Dumbo has two separate attractions in Disneyland’s Fantasyland. If you don’t know which two then watch the movie again!
8. Robin Hood
Oo-de-lally, oo-de-lally! Golly, what a movie! For many of us, this movie was our first introduction to the story of Robin Hood, so of course we’re nostalgic. Plus there’s action, adventure, and archery! Not to mention Robin Hood is a fox… literally.
9. Brother Bear
Brother Bear takes us on a rollercoaster…of emotions (thanks Phil Collins). By the end of the movie you’ll want to give Koda and Kenai a big bear hug. Seriously, this movie is jam-packed with feels. All the emotions and all the bears.
10. The Sword in the Stone
Any child walking through the castles at Disneyland or Walt Disney World has dreamed of pulling the sword from the stone, like Wart/Arthur does. How awesome would it be to have a wizard come to your home and become your mentor? We’re jealous and are forced to live vicariously through this movie.
11. The Jungle Book
Every man-cub should run to watch The Jungle Book again. It’s a bare necessity! While King Louie is trying to learn how to be like you-oo-oo, you could be learning how to dance like him-mm-mm. You’ll forget about your worries and your strife (for 78 minutes) while watching this wild movie. (Yeah man!)
12. The Black Cauldron
Next time you’re planning a scary movie night you should give The Black Cauldron a watch. The Horned King is the epitome of evil, there are scary undead armies, and a terrifying creature that steals apples (which are also referred to as “munchings and crunchings”). Oh! The horrifying crunching!
13. Oliver & Company
Speaking of apples, if you fancy a trip to the Big Apple you should watch Oliver & Company. By the end of the movie you’ll be singing along without a care in the world. You might even spot a familiar dog or two in the city. Bonus: Joey Lawrence voices Oliver.
14. Meet the Robinsons
The message from Meet the Robinsons is one that everyone, young and old, should always remember: keep moving forward. Kids, adults, and dinosaurs with big heads and little arms all need a little inspiration every once in a while to remind themselves to never give up!
15. Dinosaur
If Rex was afraid of Andy getting another dinosaur in Toy Story, he would have been terrified of how many dinosaurs there are in this movie. We love dinosaurs, so we love this movie! If you’re more of a furry, woodland creature fan then you’ll fall in love with the lemurs.
Basically if you can’t sing all the songs (or quote at least three lines) you need to watch the movie again. What Disney movies are you going to watch?
