Back in November we posted about the possibility of a sequel to the 2010 movie, Alice in Wonderland. Now today we can announce that the sequel will be made as the title and cast has been released.
The film will be called, Alice in Wonderland: Through the Looking Glass. Reprising his role at the Mad Hatter, Johnny Depp will be back. Also Mia Wasikowska will be back to play Alice. Helena Bonham Carter will play the Red Queen and Anne Hathaway will again be the White Queen.
Tim Burton will not be directing this film, but will be the executive producer. Walt Disney Studios has announced that James Bobin (Muppets Most Wanted director and charming Brit), has signed on to direct the film from a screenplay by Linda Woolverton (Beauty and the Beast). Danny Elfman (The Nightmare Before Christmas) is back to compose, multiple Oscar-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood will be designing what we can only imagine will be epic costumes.
New additions to the cast include Sacha Baron Cohen as “Time,” Rhys Ifans will play Zanik Hightopp, the Mad Hatter’s father, and Ed Speleers joins the cast as James Harcourt.
Other returning cast members include fan favorites including Matt Lucas, Michael Sheen, Alan Rickman, Timothy Spall, Stephen Fry, Toby Jones, and Paul Whitehouse. The film comes to theaters May 27, 2016.
I can’t wait for this film, I really enjoyed the first one and I’m glad Tim Burton is involved along with his regular group include Depp, Bonham Carter and Elfman. What do you think about this announcement?
