Well, the day is finally here. Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, the highly anticipated film, finally is in theaters across the country. From all the feedback we’ve seen, this looks to be an extremely entertaining and well done movie. Upon further research, I came across the fact that Guardians is the first Marvel movie that was done by a woman. Interesting! Screenwriter Nicole Perlman is the person behind the movie.
In a recent interview with TIME magazine, Perlman described the trouble she had persuading studios to trust a woman to write sci-fi: “I was noticing that I was having trouble convincing people, when I was pitching on projects, that I would be capable of doing this. There was a little bit of an attitude of, ‘Well, you’re a woman, you’re not writing romantic comedies, we’ll give you the Marie Curie biopic.” In the same interview, Perlman also fuelled speculation that Marvel is developing a movie around a female superhero.
The studio currently has five unannounced titles planned for release between now and 2019, and there is a growing demand from fans who want to see a female superhero in the lead role. Being a female myself, I think the idea is pretty cool. Why do men have all the butt-kicking fun? Look at Black Widow, she can hang with the best of them. I’m looking forward to seeing what Marvel has up next, and well as checking out Guardians for myself with my family! Look for a review of my personal take on the film soon! Have fun at the movies!
