Ages 5 to 8When it comes to gearing up for 104 days of summer vacation, sunglasses are a must. And here’s another Phineas and Ferb invention to help kids keep tabs on their shades — a no-sew, cinch-style pouch embellished with the likeness of one of the boys. Or, if your child can’t choose between the two characters, you can feature Phineas on one side and Ferb on the other.

What you’ll need

  • Phineas and Ferb Felt Sunglasses Case Template
  • Scissors
  • Straight pins
  • Felt scraps for the Phineas and Ferb images
Stiff felt works best for creating the Phineas and Ferb images, but regular felt will do, too. If you can’t find the felt colors you want, another option is to substitute no-fray fabric swatches.
  • 9-inch square of soft felt for each case
  • Tacky glue
  • Hot glue gun
  • Toothpick
  • Decorative cording, two 18-inch lengths
  • 2 pony beads (optional)

How to make it

  1. Print the template and use it as a pattern for cutting out the pieces from the specified colors of felt.Phineas and Ferb Felt Sunglasses Case
  2. Assemble the sunglasses by gluing the respective frames atop their backings. For this step, it’s easiest to use tacky glue (instead of hot glue) applied with the tip of a toothpick. To complete Phineas’ pair, stick the top of the ear piece to the back of the glasses, as shown.

  3. Hot glue the hair and head pieces together. For Phineas, the hair goes beneath the head. Ferb’s goes on top. Next, glue Phineas’ teeth in place, sticking the upper edge of the cutout to the back of the head.

  4. Glue each pair of sunglasses onto the appropriate character’s head, making sure the center fits over the bridge of the nose and the lower edge of the far lens tucks a bit behind the face.
  5. To create the pouch, fold the felt in half and hot glue the bottom and side edges together, stopping an inch from the top, as shown. Snip a matching 1-inch cut on the opposite side of the pouch.

  6. Glue the top edges down to create channels for the drawstrings.

  7. Thread the first drawstring through one of the channels.
Note: It’s easier if you insert a drinking straw into the channel, slide the cord through the straw, and then remove the straw.

  8. Thread the string through the other channel

  9. Thread the second cord through the channels, this time going in the opposite direction than the first.

  10. Slide a bead onto each pair of cord ends and then knot the ends together.

  11. Glue the assembled character image onto the pouch and the case is ready to use. Simply pull the drawstring ends to cinch the top.
