This past weekend at Motor City Comic Con, we were fortunate enough to be able to meet and talk to J. August Richards who plays Mike/Deathlok on Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Being that we have a LOT of Marvel Fans on TMSM, we put talking to “Deathlok” on the top of our priority list for the weekend. We were able to talk to him all 3 days, and we were not disappointed whatsoever.
On Friday, we had introduced ourselves to J and told him that we were fans of the show. He was so gracious and so nice, very easy to talk to. We also told him that our site has a lot of fans who follow SHIELD and he was so appreciative and humble. It’s so great to see someone like him who has had such awesome success with his career, and is still so down to earth and pleasant. I told him that it’s funny how his character on SHIELD is so rough and tough, and he in person is so quite the opposite. He laughed and agreed, saying he’s not sure why he gets cast as the tough guy a lot, but he’s happy to do it, even though it’s so much not like how he really is.
On Saturday, we spoke with J again, and got the photo seen above. Our TMSM Avenger had a question for him… He asked J if he had a cameo in The Avengers movie like people have said through the rumor mill. He replied that the rumors aren’t true, and he didn’t appear in The Avengers. Good to know! I also told him it was cool how on the season finale, his character wasn’t taken into custody, and he was able to walk off into the sunset, so to speak! That’s good for Mike/Deathlok, and he agreed, and can’t wait to see what’s next! Again, he was so very nice to us, talkative, friendly, etc…..
The next day on Sunday, we decided to take my boys back up to Comic Con with us so they could walk around and see all the sights. The boys love Marvel and Star Wars, so it was a must that we put “work” aside and let them go and check it out! We saw J. August Richards again that day, and the boys wanted to meet him being that they are fans of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D! My sons, Andrew and Aidan, were excited to meet him, but got nervous once we started walking up to him. I almost had to PUSH them forward, it was funny. I think it’s just because they didn’t know what to expect, especially since “Deathlok” is a tough guy on tv, they probably didn’t separate the two somehow. We walked up to J and he stuck out his hand to the boys, and they looked terrified! I told him they were nervous to meet him, and he pulled them right over, told them not to be scared, and started chatting it up with the boys. He stood between them for a picture! They were thrilled! When we were walking away, they were jumping up and down, just beaming that they got to meet him, their day was made thanks to J!
I have to say, that meeting J. August Richards was an absolute pleasure. He is so nice, and he’s very grateful for the fans who follow his work. I told him how much our Main Streeters love Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, and he was quick to say thank you and to “tell all of your readers that I said hello and I appreciate it!” So, I’m doing just that….. What a nice guy. We thank him for taking the time this weekend to speak to us, and we can’t wait to see him next year on SHIELD!
