In April 2013, Pixar announced the new film Inside Out that they were working on. Since then little has been released in relation to the film, but now Pixar has released the official synopsis for the film that is due out on June 19, 2015.
From the tepuis of South America to a monster-filled metropolis, Academy Award®-winning director Pete Docter has taken audiences to unique and imaginative places. In 2015, he will take us to the most extraordinary location of all – inside the mind of an 11-year-old named Riley.
Growing up can be a bumpy road, and it’s no exception for Riley, who is uprooted from her Midwest life when her father starts a new job in San Francisco. Like all of us, Riley is guided by her emotions – Joy (Amy Poehler), Fear (Bill Hader), Anger (Lewis Black), Disgust (Mindy Kaling) and Sadness (Phyllis Smith). The emotions live in Headquarters, the control center inside Riley’s mind, where they help advise her through everyday life. As Riley and her emotions struggle to adjust to a new life in San Francisco, turmoil ensues in Headquarters. Although Joy, Riley’s main and most important emotion, tries to keep things positive, the emotions conflict on how best to navigate a new city, house and school.
When first reading about this film, I thought about the old Fox television show Herman’s Head. The idea of the show was a person going through the daily rituals of life but you would see the different voices/emotions in his head and how they fight over how to feel about different things.
The voice casting for this film seems great so far. Bill Hader, you will know from Saturday Night Live is a great comedian. Phyllis Smith was on the Office and has done a voice character before in Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked. Amy Poehler, another Saturday Night Live alum and also on the show Parks and Recs. Mindy Kaling is the star of her own comedy show The Mindy Project and also a voice in Wreck-It-Ralph. Lewis Black, who is one of my favorite comedians, plays the anger emotion and I couldn’t think of a better person to do that. You may know him from his numerous comedy specials on Comedy Central and also The Daily Show.
As more news comes out about Inside Out we will be sure to pass it along to all of you.
