The Hollywood Reporter has stated Peter Mayhew will reprise his role as Chewbacca in Episode VII.
Peter Mayhew began playing the iconic character of Chewbacca in the original film in 1977 and continued the character for Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi. Peter also played the role in Episode III, Revenge of the Sith. Rumors have been hitting the web for weeks as Peter recently cancelled an appearance at Texas convention Comicpalooza “due to filming.” Since the convention takes place May 23-26, many fans wondered if that meant the actor would be busy with Episode VII.
When the casting call went out months ago for an actor that had a lot of the details needed to play Chewbacca, I had hoped Peter would be up for the role. I know he recently had double knee replacement surgery and hoped he would be healed in time to play Chewie. I’m sure most Star Wars fans are very happy today to hear this news. As more news breaks, we will be sure to pass it along.
