One of my favorite things to stop and watch while I stroll through my favorite parks EPCOT is the Fountain of Nations.  It’s a spectacle to behold that I think many visitors often overlook.  For 20 plus years it has been a must do for me as much as Horizons, Test Track or Soarin’.  For those of you who don’t know what the Fountain represents, I’m about to tell you.

The Fountain was present on opening day in 1982.  At the opening day ceremonies, over 20 countries representatives were there to help accomplish the International Ceremony of the Waters and Dedication of the Fountain of the World Fellowship.  The ceremony was lead by Lillian Disney.  Each representative poured a gallon of water from their country into the Fountain as a symbol of world peace and fellowship. Water poured into the Fountain included:

    The Adriatic Sea

    The Artic Ocean

    The Bodensee

    The Caribbean

    The Cauca River

    The Yangtze River

    The Trevi Fountain

    The Nile River

    Tivoli Gardens Lake

    The Seine

    Sea of Japan

    The River Thames

    The Mississippi

    The Mananares River

    Lake Inari

    Harrison Cove

    Lake Geneva

    The Meuse River

    The Philippine Sea

    The Senegambia River

    The Xochimilco in Mexico City

The Fountain is located just as you pass under Spaceship Earth located in Innoventions Plaza.  It “water show” uses over 200 thousand gallons of water and has 300 water nozzles that can shoot the water up to 150 feet in the air. The show is set to music from John Tesh, Yanni, and classic Disney movies like The Rocketeer and The Rescuers Down Under.

During the re-dedication ceremony for the 25th Anniversary, representatives from the countries returned for the “Pouring of the Waters” ceremony and poured another gallon of water from their native countries into the fountain once again.
