The Disney Insider had a chance to visit the drawing desk of famous Disney animator Eric Goldberg to talk to him about his work on the recent Disney short film, Get a Horse!. Eric was the supervising 2D animator for the project, which made it his responsibility to make sure the 2D portion of the film was a perfect match to the earliest Mickey Mouse cartoons from Walt Disney and Ub Iwerks. Previously, Eric served as lead animator for the character of Genie in Aladdin, and director of the film Pocahontas.
Eric sat down with pen and paper and explained to us what made 1928′s Mickey Mouse famous, and how he might look different than other versions of Mickey you might be familiar with. Take a look:
As a special treat, Eric also showed us how to draw Mickey’s main rival of the era, and of Get a Horse!, Peg-Leg Pete:
Get a Horse! was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film. Don’t forget to tune in on March 2, 2014 to see the awards show on ABC.
