On this date, in 1994 the Dallas Cowboys played against the Buffalo Bills in Super Bowl XXVIII. The game was played in Atlanta, GA. The Cowboy’s won the game 30-13. Emmitt Smith, considered to be one of the greatest running backs of all time (and a future Dancing With the Stars Winner), shouts at the conclusion of the game “I’m going to Disney World!”
In 2000, Super Bowl XXXIV was played again in Atlanta GA at the Georgia Dome. This game matched up the St. Louis Rams against the Tennessee Titans. Toward the end of the game, the Titans drove to the St. Louis 10-yard line with six seconds remaining. On the final play of the game, Rams linebacker Mike Jones tackled Tennessee wide receiver Kevin Dyson one yard short of the goal line to prevent a potential game-tying touchdown. This play went into NFL Lore as “”One Yard Short”. The Rams won the game 23 – 16 and Kurt Warner went on to win the game’s MVP award. After winning the game, Kurt announced “I’m going to Disney World”.
The halftime show for Super Bowl XXXIV was produced by Disney and titled “Tapestry of Nations” after the Epcot parade of the same name. The show, narrated by actor Edward James Olmos, was inspired by Walt Disney World’s millennium celebration. It featured a full symphony orchestra; a multi-generational, 80-person choir; and singers Phil Collins, Christina Aguilera, Enrique Iglesias, and Toni Braxton.
