My Top 10 Snacks of WDW

Everyone who visits Walt Disney World has their favorite things to do while there. To some the mind-blowing shows like Festival of the Lion King absolutely cannot be missed. To others the thought of not riding The Haunted Mansion is considered blasphemy. Yet, to others (me included), not getting to stand in a 30-minute queue line for your 100th Dole Whip can drive a person to his or her grave. To me the snacks and dining are just as important as any show or attraction. What trip is complete without a character meal or a quick churro from Mexico? Snacking around The Disney Resort is one of my favorite pastimes. So this week I’m going to list my top 10 snacks around the “World”. Now I know some of you who may actually read my articles might grab your computer monitor and scream, “HOW CAN A MICKEY MOUSE ICE CREAM BAR OR POPCORN NOT BE ON YOUR LIST?Well, it’s my list and I don’t really care for the ice cream bars or popcorn. So in no particular order, on with the list.

wsf334299LARGE The Nutella and Fresh Fruit Waffle – The first time I bought one of these from the Sleepy Hollow counter in Liberty Square I knew I was hooked. The name says it all. A Belgium waffle with a coating of Nutella and topped with strawberries, blueberries and bananas folded like a taco.

pat118492SMALL Cupcakes – I’m a sucker for cupcakes in general. I’m not sure there’s ever been one that I didn’t like and the ones on WDW property are no different, so I’m putting cupcakes as a whole on the list. My faves include the popular Butterfinger Cupcake, Strawberry Lemonade Cupcake and the Peanut Butter and Jelly Cupcake.

9fdbf3b7 Caramel Ginger Ice Cream – I know I’m probably in the minority on this one, but I absolutely love this stuff and wish I could get it at my local Publix. The first time I had this was during the Food and Wine Festival some years back and was excited to find it was sold year round at Lotus Blossom Cafe in the China pavilion.

fft382345SMALL The Turkey Leg – Call me what you will but I love the barbarian way that I get to eat one of these. It makes me feel like a prehistoric caveman eating this while walking around in Frontierland.

sin584232SMALL Kitchen Sink – I must say that this is not for the faint of heart. This big tub of heavenly bliss is probably best tackled by a small group. Located at the Beach Club is a little ice cream shop called Beaches and Cream and they will gladly announce over the intercom when one of these are being served so that everyone in the shop can turn and stare as they bring this monstrosity to your table. This “small” sundae has 8 whopping scoops of ice cream that include vanilla, mint, chocolate and strawberry ice cream. It also includes every topping in the house like hot fudge, butterscotch syrup, peanut butter syrup, chocolate syrup, a banana, a cupcake, angel food cake, marshmallow creme, strawberries, pineapples, a brownie, candy bars, Oreos, almonds, chocolate cookies, chocolate shavings, chocolate chips, peanut butter chips, cherries, sprinkles and on top of all of that sugary splendidness is a whole can of whipped creme.

Churros_5 Churros – Just the way the word rolls off your tongue makes this thing sound good. This fried piece of dough covered in sugar and cinnamon is a must anytime I’m walking by the Mexico pavilion. That’s why your chances of finding me there are pretty great. I like to pass by it…a lot. If you’re lucky I’ll be wearing my churro t-shirt, no sombrero though.

bak675757SMALL Boulangerie Patisserie – This is another one kind of like the cupcake situation, I can’t pick just one so I’m putting the whole thing on here. Every time we go here I tell the wife, “I’ll just get two pastries. One for you and one for me and we’ll share.” But noooooo, I walk in and these things just pull me in and before I know it I’m walking out with one of every single pastry for me and the one my wife wanted. But the Eclair, the Citron, and the Framboise are my favorites.

ins_recipes_polysian_tonga-toast_447 Tonga Toast – Most people eat these as an entree but not me. This banana stuffed French toast covered in sugary cinnamon is up there with the creation of the peanut and butter sandwich.

Food and Snacks-006 Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich This one is pretty self-explanatory. It’s a whopping scoop (or two or three, not sure) of vanilla ice cream in between two chocolate chip cookies.

gingerbread453728SMALL Gingerbread As most of you know during the Christmas season Disney goes all out with building houses and merry go rounds out of gingerbread. Well I love ginger bread with a big glass of milk and I love that they sell the stuff.

So there you go, my top 10 snacks at Walt Disney World. I know some of you may agree and some may disagree, but for me this is my ultimate personal snack list. Not a one of these items go un-eaten on my visits. Hope you enjoyed reading it as much as I did writing it. Leave your favorite snacks in the comments section and let us know what

snacks you can’t go without on your trips.

  1. Good wrap-up of WDW snacks — however, I always look forward to a pineapple float (Aloha Isle & Polynesian) and the wonderful sundaes at Ghirardelli in Downtown Disney.
