The Avengers: Age of Ultron Casting News

Thomas Kretschmann, who plays Abraham van Helsing on NBC’s Dracula, has joined the cast for a major villain role in The Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Kretschmann will play  Baron Wolfgang von Strucker,  one of the heads of terrorist organization HYDRA. In the November 1966 issue of Strange Tales #150, Baron Wolfgang von Strucker was revealed as the Supreme Hydra. Baron Wolfgang von Strucker, is an antagonist for both Captain America (Chris Evans) and Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson). In the comics, the man was a Nazi officer who becomes one of the heads of HYDRA, a terrorist organization.  The actor will join James Spader who was previously cast as main villain Ultron in the sequel.

Joss Whedon is writing and directing the sequel.  The film will bring back the Avengers from the first film and also introduces new heroes to the mix.  Elizabeth Olsen as the Scarlett Witch and Aaron Taylor-Johnson as Quicksilver.

In other related news, if you saw the first Captain America film or have read the comics you know who Red Skull is.  In case you are not sure, Red Skull is a Nazi and one of the leaders of the terrorist group HYDRA.  Its a rumor on different sites that Robert Redford’s role in the upcoming Captain America: The Winter Soldier film is actually Red Skull.
