***Please be advised, this is NOT an official Press Release from Disney! This is the word on the street right now! We will keep everyone posted as we hear more, and when/if we hear the official word from WDW!

As most of you know, MagicBand Testing has been going on for months now at Pop Century and the All Star Resorts.  We’re hearing that by the end of January, ALL Disney Resorts will be “MagicBand Only.”  The Key to the World Card is being phased out, and Guests will be given MagicBands at check in (or before).  MagicBands are for MyMagic+ functions, including park admission, touch-to-pay, touch-to-enter, and FastPass+.

Key to the World cards can still be asked for by Guests, but will not be available for regular FASTPASS use.  Meaning… that by the end of January 2014, all Walt Disney World Resort Guests will be using FastPass+, and will not have access to the legacy FASTPASS system. I know a lot of WDW Guests don’t feel they are ready for the change yet, but it appears that the new system is going to be a must.

Here’s the resort schedule for the implementation of the MagicBand Only system:

  • Jan. 6 – Disney’s Art of Animation Resort
  • Jan. 7 – Disney’s Port Orleans Resort
  • Jan. 8 – Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort and Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort
  • Jan. 9 – Disney’s Old Key West Resort and Disney’s Saratoga Spring Resort & Spa
  • Jan. 10 – Disney’s Wilderness Lodge
  • Jan. 13 – Disney’s Yacht & Beach Club Resorts
  • Jan. 14 – Disney’s Animal Kingdom Lodge
  • Jan. 15 – Disney’s BoardWalk Inn
  • Jan. 16 – Disney’s Contemporary Resort
  • Jan. 17 – Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa and Disney’s Polynesian Resort
  • Jan. 20 – Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground

Change is coming, but sometimes change is a good thing! We’ll keep you posted as we hear of more MagicBand news!

  1. We were in Pop Centurary from Dec.6 to Dec.16 . We got the bands at home before we left and my Fastpass+ picks were made before we went. I was able to decide where we were going and it was all hooked together. My meals, reservations, holel room, every thing is hooked together. It was so easy, It is a good system.

  2. If by the end of January they are planning on going to the magic band does that mean that they are getting rid of paper tickets for one day admission?

  3. Also what do previous guests do with their unused days of their passes…which state,”never expire?”
Are those passes honored by Disney,as stated, or, do guest loss their money?
